AI Headshot generators first appeared on the scene in 2023. The first models made by stable diffusion and mid-journey showed us the potential of the technology, but the results were quite lacking. However, over the last few years, AI headshot generators continue to improve. The models are getting better, more realistic, and faster.
Here at FotoLab Studio, we go over some of our favorite AI headshot generators for 2025. Today we are going to review FotoLab Studio AI, Aragon.aI, and HeadshotPro, our favorite picks for 2025.
FotoLab Studio started as NYC and Houston's first self-portrait studio. Our mission has always been to democratize access to good quality headshots. We did this by providing a space for customers to use the same camera, lighting, and equipment that professional photographers use. People love their time at FotoLab, but we also couldn't ignore the possibilities of AI headshots. We set out to recreate an AI headshot generator that looked most similar to the quality you could get at our physical photo studio. Here are some of our results:
This is Lisa, one of our colleagues at FotoLab Studio and here is the image she used to generate professional headshots with FotoLab Studio AI.
Here are the headshots generated from Lisa's photos:
Now let's go over the good and the bad. Overall, we think these photos look really good. They were able to capture some of the finer and nuanced details about Lisa including her neckline, eyes, eyebrows, lips, and nose. The images are high quality and would pass the sniff test for a real retouched photo taken by a photographer.
Now, there are some indiciations that this photo is AI generated however. One tell-tale sign of an AI generated photo is the skin. Skin is the largest organ on the body and one of the most complex details to get right because it's often not about shape or color, but texture. Texture is something that's really difficult to get right in AI especially facial skin texture! If you zoom in super closely, you will notice an overall smoothing of the skin that can come off unnatural at times.
That said, there are many photographers and editors who remove blemishes and apply skin filtering to achieve this effect! It's an interesting dichotomy that AI headshot generators are trying to make images "more human" while in the real world we are trying to make photos "more perfect", often times removing some things that make us human.
Aragon AI is likely the largest AI headshot generator currently out there. They are venture backed and have generated over 25 million headshots! They are also moving into building AI tools to help with editing including changing backgrounds, unblurring images, enhancing photos, and magic erasers. We are very impressed with what Aragon AI has built in a short time frame. If you are looking for a full suite of AI image generations and editing tools, I would check out Aragon AI to see what they have in-store and offer.
Headshot Pro is started by Danny Postma who's a famous tech influencer on Twitter (now X) who seems like an incredible person. He's very open with the tech community about how he builds his products, growth strategies, SEO optimizations, and more. We respect what Danny has done with Headshot Pro including his brilliant SEO strategies to get Headshot Pro and other products he builds to rank #1 for their keywords. Here's some photos from Headshot Pro which we think also look great!
Overall, we think the best 3 headshot generators are FotoLab Studio AI, Aragon, and Headshot Pro for 2025. The technology is evolving at a rapid pace and these companies are constantly improving and staying on top of the technology. If you are in New York City or Houston, feel free to stop by our physical self-portrait studio. But if you would like to just upload some selfies at home and also get really good quality headshots, try out FotoLab Studio AI.
